Authorities have arrested 17 suspects following a drug raid in Cocke County. According to county deputies, they received information about alleged drug activity happening at a cabin in the area. After arriving at the cabin, deputies found several individuals they say were engaging in illegal activity.

The drug raid happened last Wednesday at approximately 11:03 a.m. in Cosby. Police say they found five individuals inside the cabin and another suspect was in the cabin’s driveway spray painting an allegedly stolen car. The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Forrest City last Monday. At the arrest site, authorities say they found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, in addition to an allegedly stolen DVD player. Authorities also confiscated chocolate covered hallucinogenic mushrooms, LSD and $993 in cash.

As the day continued, sheriff’s deputies received more data about other suspects and continued to receive such information until the early morning hours on Thursday. Sheriff’s deputies suspect that additional people were going to be arriving at the cabin with another stolen vehicle and additional drugs at a later time.

No details have been released pertaining to the names, identities or possible crimes of the 17 people arrested in this alleged drug bust. However, one thing is sure. Anyone who has been arrested and accused of drug crimes in the state of North Carolina will have the right to defend themselves in court. If successful in a criminal defense, accused persons may be able to get some or all of their charges dropped, or obtain a significant reduction in punishments if their criminal proceedings result in conviction.
