Popular Pennsylvania rapper Wiz Khalifa, 22, was arrested early this morning following a performance in Greenville at East Carolina University. Khalifa, who was born Cameron Thomaz, was taken into custody for drug charges after police officers searched the rapper’s tour bus.

A spokesperson for the Pitt County Detention Center confirmed that Khalifa was booked into the detention center at about 1:30 a.m. this morning. He was released around 8 a.m. after posting $300,000 bail. Nine additional individuals were also arrested on the same drug charges stemming from the police search of the van. At press time, those nine individuals remained in jail.

The rapper is facing a felony count of trafficking in marijuana, a felony count of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/place for sale or storage of marijuana and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

A video circulating the internet reportedly shows the police searching the bus and later leading Khalifa away in handcuffs after his arrest. The video shows the rapper’s fans screaming at the police as the arrest takes place.

Khalifa was performing at East Carolina University as part of his Waken Baken Tour 2010. He recently signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and was “hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” by MTV News. The rapper has been unapologetic about his love for marijuana, detailing his $10,000-per-month marijuana habit in a recent interview.

A spokesperson for Khalifa could not be reached for comment. However, Khalifa posted a tweet on Twitter alluding to his run-in with the law and advocating the legalization of marijuana.
